THE beginning
Can you imagine what life was like without cell phones? What was there for people to even do before cell phones were invented? How did they survive?! If they needed to contact somebody while they were out driving in the middle of nowhere, or if a big emergency happened to them while they were out and about, how did they get a hold of anyone? It is all quite difficult for us technologically savvy people of the 21st century to believe and comprehend, but it sure was possible. And don’t worry about if there were things for them to do without these neat gizmos. Of course there were things to do before all of the 5 generations of iPhones, and all the Blackberry’s, and the Android’s. There was, as a matter of fact, life before these neat little gadgets with an endless amount of features.
The earliest cell phone ancestor can be traced back to 1947. During this time, scientists had been working on a way to make phone calls from a vehicle. While the range of these phones was limited to a single cell, researchers realized the importance of the technology and lobbied the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to reserve frequencies for the development of future advancements. Since 1947, cell phones have come a long, long way. For starters, you can actually fit them in your pocket if you want to! Seventy years ago they were around 25 pounds. We are also now able to call people in different cities, states, and even continents no matter if we are in the comfort of our homes or out among the busy people of the city. Way back then, it was possible for phones to only have a 5 mile radius. When we think back on the past, we should appreciate how far we have come in technology because it has really benefited us wholly.
